An inspiring and charismatic guest keynote speaker is lined up for the Bermuda Captive Conference in June.

Derreck Kayongo was a Ugandan refugee who, with his parents, fled that country during the reign of Idi Amin in the 1970s.

He eventually moved to the US and it was there that he founded the Global Soap Project, which recycles used hotel soap and redistributes it to impoverished populations around the world.

The humanitarian initiative has helped transform the lives of millions of people in more than 90 countries. He was a Top Ten CNN Hero in 2011 and is currently chief executive officer of the National Centre for Civil and Human Rights.

Mr Kayongo is a renowned public speaker and has an engaging and moving personal story to tell, involving courage and survival, social entrepreneurship and humanitarianism.

He has a personal set of guiding principles, coined as Self — with the four letters representing service, education, leadership and faith.

Mr Kayongo is described as a business visionary who galvanises audiences to seize the power of observation to identify issues and effectively solve challenges.

The Bermuda Captive Conference is being held at the Fairmont Southampton from June 11 to 13.

Details about the conference, including registration, can be found on the website: https://bermudacaptiveconference.com/
