TN Tatem Assembly Hall was packed with students, teachers, parents and wellwishers during the appointment ceremony of senior leaders for the school year.

After a warm welcome to everyone by M3 student Taj King, fellow student Michael Simons introduced the guest speaker for the occasion, former head leader at TN Tatem Emily Cabral, who is now a student at Saltus Grammar School.

Emily told everyone that she had always wanted to become a leader. In fact she remembered as a Primary Three student at Purvis Primary setting herself the goal of becoming Head Girl of Purvis, an appointment which was made three years later when she was in Primary Six.

She made the Principal’s List at TN Tatem in her first term at middle school and maintained that position during her whole time at middle school. Additionally, Emily represented TN Tatem in netball, softball, cross country, track and field, cricket, field hockey and football.

In her football career, she represented TN Tatem at every level and represented Bermuda at the under-15 and under-17 levels. She recently played in the under-15 girls Concacaf tournament where Bermuda became champions, with Emily scoring the winning goal.

Emily thanked all her teachers at TN Tatem for providing her with the opportunity to show leadership both off and on the field, as she became a house captain, a Power house leader and head girl for TN Tatem in 2017. She told the children that much of her success in her academic and sports life was due to hard work and taking on challenges without giving up.

The Power house leaders for the 2018-19 school year were then introduced. They are:

• Keidel Astwood, head Power house leader (female)

• Michael Simons, head Power house leader (male)

• Milae Smith, deputy head Power house leader (female)

• Nathan Wilson, deputy head Power house leader (male)

• Kayla McCarthy, PTA Liaison head Powerhouse leader (female)

• Taj King, PTA liaison head Powerhouse leader (male)

In her closing remarks to everyone present, principal Garita Coddingon congratulated the leadership team on their appointments and wished everyone all the best for a successful year. She also thanked M3 Team leader Sharnelle Turini for all the hard work she put in organising the event.

“Power of One is now a firm part of out TN Tatem culture, embracing our inner potential, teaching self respect, and helping us to set goals for ourselves which will be with us as we reach adulthood,” concluded Ms Coddington.
